The Night I Almost Got Wasted
For those of you that are too lazy too
read what I say in News, I spent the past weekend at U of
M in Ann Arbor. My brother Dan went with me as well and
our plan was to spend the night at Lax and Schmitty's
dorm room. We left around noon and hit 7-11 to load up
before the trip. The 40 minute drive ended up being
around 80 minutes because we went the wrong way on the
first exit. We then had to back track and ended up in a
construction zone. Fortunetely, we found our way around
Ann Arbor easily and arrived at 1:30 Once there, Lax took us around town. First, we visited Digital Ops, a computer building that hosts a Counter-Strike. The first half hour is free to play so obviously, we played until our half hour was up. Sure it was fun, but I'd rather play at home for free with my own controls and a microphone. Following that, we walked around some more, passing an inquisitive hobo that we quickly avoided. Lax took us to an arcade that seemed decent. We probably would have stayed but the UM vs. State game was about to begin. The game, as all you probably know, was quite awful. It was fun to watch of course. Nick Rancillio and Jarrod Robertson came over and watched with us, this was pretty cool because we hadn't seen them recently. Unfortunetly Michigan played a thoughtless game, practically giving the Spartans their victory. I am quite sure that last nano-second will be contested in the years to come.... Anyway, we met some other people at Pizza House after the game and ate dinner there. Originally we intended to play football or frisbee after dinner before the parties started, but it was very dark and cold. Instead, we crammed eight people into Lax and Schmitty's dorm room. I don't know if any of you have been in there, but it is very small. A third of the room is taken up by bunk-beds, another third by computers and Steve's huge TV. For the next 3 hours, we watched South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut, The Simpsons, Family Guy and some Celebrity Jeopordy. Around Midnight, we left and went searching for a nice party where we could get wasted. So we walked, and we walked, and we walked some more. After an hour of walking around Central Campus we realized that there were not any parties that night. This struck as odd to me as I imagined college to be a 24/7 beer-fest. Lax told me that this was rare having no parties at all. He apologized for this, but I knew it wasn't his fault. The thing is, I thought there would be a lot of people trying to forget about the game. I imagined lots of drunk people and parties. Unfortunetly there wasn't anything we could do. One cant exactly bring a keg into a tiny dorm room with 10+ people in it. I was a bit dissapointed, I was looking forward to seeing Warrow drunk. We ended up going to Starbucks until they kicked us out. It was kind of fun, we made fun of teachers from highschool and had a great time. Back at the dorm room, Lax, Jarrod, my brother, and I played euchre for about hour and a half. After Jarrod and Rancillio went to bed, my brother and Schmitty played Counter-Strike. Eventually, they started sucking really bad and we decided to go to bed. The next day some more Counter-Strike was played and we ordered Jimmy Johns(...mmm...food...). Around 1:30, we left for home, arriving less than an hour later to our boring lives. Overall, from this experience, I learned how much better college is than high school. One can just leave and go anywhere at any time, bed time is roughly midnight to 2:00 AM, on weekdays. A T-1 line in every room. Living in a town where EVERYBODY is the same age as you. Still, high school isn't too bad, at least I still have my car to use and a full pantry and fridge. I plan on visiting again, so be on the look out for future college stories... ~ Kevin Bondalapati |
