This picture is why Episode
1: The Phantom Menace was a massive failure
in the minds of Star Wars fans. The original
trilogy did not revolve around weak comedy,
stupidity, nor was it geared towards little kids.
Jar Jar Binks was all three of these. He lent no
spark of inteligence or seriousness to Episode 1.
Lucas obviously wanted to expand the audience of
Star Wars to the young kids. Unfortunetly, by
doing so, he ruined the movie for the older
generation and the fans especially. Lucas knew
that all of the fans would go to see the movie
regardless of what he put in it. So with the
addition of Jar Jar Binks, he increased his
audience immensly. It is a proven fact that in
an attempt to make more money off a a product, to
change it to make more money, it is ruined. But
in addition to Jar Jar, having C-3PO and R2-D2
was completely useless to the plot of the movie.
The Trade Federation leaders did an awful job and
sounded like they merely had a Chinese accent.
Anakin was also quite annoying. He was too
childish and almost impossible to picture as the
future Lord of the Darkness. Another problem with
Anakin is that he was about six when filming
tarted and he was supposed to play a ten year
old. Queen Amidala was supposed to be 14, but
Natalie Portman was 19. A relationship from a ten
year old and a 14 year old is believable. In the
movie, the possibility did not seem likely, the
age difference seems to extreme.
I will admit that there were many good actors
and great moments. Pernilla August(Shmi
Skywalker), Liam Nissan(Qui-Gon Jinn), and
Natalie Portman(Queen Amidala)did excelent jobs.
In additon, Ray Park created the most fantastic
fight scene ever. The CGI effects were simply
astounding. The battle between the Gungans and
Battle Droids was completely CGI. The lifelike
qualities of this battle scene were phenominal.
As for Episode 2, it is already off to a
substandard start. Its title, Attack of the
Clones, says enough. One can only hope that
the acting improves, awesome fight scens are
included and that Jar Jar Binks meets his end.
